Protect the People : Protect the Planet : Protect Sonlight
In our tiny spot of the woods, we are committed to do our part in using the resources of the planet wisely. We realize the importance of each of us doing our part, and how significant that is to our world.
- 100% of our electric power is purchased from wind farms, not coal fired plants
- We use compact flourescent lightbulbs where possible
- Toilets are low flow. 1.6 gallons per flush instead of 5 gallons
- Shower heads are low flow (max 3 gallons/minute)
- Organic kitchen waste is composted
- We recycle tin, aluminum, glass, plastic, cardboard
- Most of our vehicles have 4 cylinder engines, (or less)
- The main buildings were intentionally built to face south, taking advantage of warmth from the sun
- We schedule 'town run' days, and drive to town only 3 days a week as much as possible
- We purchase Pura Vida coffee. Fair trade, shade grown coffee. Proceeds from this for-profit company are poured back into the communities where they purchase coffee. www.puravidacoffee.com
- We teach and use Leave No Trace camping practices at camp and in our wilderness programs
