The Sonlight Staff realize the unique challenges parents face when sending their young child to summer camp. Both camper and parents can feel anxious and nervous. Research shows that summer camp is a healthy experience for almost all children (campparents.org/valuecamp.php). From a warm greeting and smile as you arrive, to listening as your child recounts their favorite camp memories from the past week, we design our summer camps to be fun, enriching, innovative, and memorable. Our summer staff is fully trained in areas such as homesickness, bullying, behavior management, and safety. We want your child to have the best summer camp experience possible. Parent’s Questions -
I’m nervous about my child’s first time at camp. What things do I need to know?
We understand it can sometimes be hard, deciding where and at what age, to send your child to summer camp. Here at Sonlight, we believe in the benefits of summer camp: emotional development, spiritual growth, safe interactions within a supporting community, etc. We also believe in having the very best counseling staff, who are hand-picked, and who undergo (10) days of training before our summer season. Lastly, we train extensively, and adjust our program, to make new campers feel safe, secure, and at home.
Still have more questions? Visit American Camp Association's www.campparents.org for advice, how to choose the right camp, the impact of summer camp on child development, and helpful information. We believe in the benefits of summer camp, we hope you will too!
