December 29th, 2007

Still cold here. -12 on the thermometer at camp this morning. Lots of frozen things that shouldn't be frozen. Like pipes. Alicia took some great pics snowshoeing up to the ditch.

December 28th, 2007

Lots 'o snow for snowshoeing. After a good jaunt, Mary and Alicia are ready for campfire.

First Presbyterian Tulsa kids arrive tonight for a Christmas ski trip. Fun for us to have them here. 3" new snow at camp, hooray for snow! Devo by Russell Duren- keep an eye out for more devos from him. Thanks Russell.

December 24th, 2007

Merry Christmas everybody. We love you, are grateful for you!

December 23, 2007

When the Amarillo group arrived late at night, it was snowing, tiki torches were lit and it looked magical. Today is clear. A beautiful day in southwest Colorado, blue sky, and fresh snow.

December 21, 2007

We have an inch of new snow this morning, and it's snowing hard this morning. Mid high youth from First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo arrive this evening, they're in for some great skiing.

Daily we consider the planet, our impact on the world, and our footprint on this bit of forest in Southwest Colorado. We work on being good stewards of what we've been entrusted with. Click to see what we're currently doing.

Much snow. Much plowing. New tractor. Happy Winston.

December 17, 2007

A good day for stuffing brochures.

Wolf Creek. Amazing. 99 inches of powder in 7 days. The pics show the crowds, the slopes, the powder.

December 11, 2007

36" is the official measurement for snow on the ground at Sonlight. Lots 'o shoveling and plowing. It's a winter wonderland. Many good things are happening. Ski groups start to arrive on December 21, and boy do we have snow. Heidi is busy with summer plans, in between Christmas shopping and coaching. A great quote from John Ortberg's book WhenThe Game Is Over, It All Goes Back In The Box : "We cannot make friendship and love happen. They come, when they come at all, as gifts. But we can make space for them".

Snow, snow, snow. It's a lovely site. No electricity at the camp Friday or Saturday. Guess that makes for a good day to sit in front of the woodstove! More snow- Wolf Creek picked up 60", and has a 102" base. We have at least 18" on the ground at Sonlight, and it's still snowing.

December 8, 2007

What a day. Power went out at Sonlight yesterday morning and didn't come on again until 6 am this morning. We had heavy, wet snow yesterday morning, and then it started raining. It rained, and rained and rained. Then snowed. 10" snow on the ground, and it's still snowing hard. Power went out again this morning, and was out several hours. It's just beautiful.

December 7, 2007

The snow machine got turned on, and it's wintry looking! 6" over night, and it's snowing hard this morning. A big storm is predicted. Heidi is here, yay summer camp!

December 5, 2007

Oh boy, snow predicted. Pics of Karamie in Israel are up, thanks for sending them Karamie! New faces in the meadow, coyotes were making themselves at home. Benji was on the lookout, and barked a lot. He's really not very scarey.

December 4, 2007

It's a season packed with all sorts of emotional stuff. Snow and wonderful wintry weather, lots of anticipation about the gifts we can give others, the amazing gift of Jesus, time off from our usual routine of school or work, family and friends. Celebrate the season: tell somebody you appreciate them, give a gift of a kind action, and reflect on the most incredible gift of all.

December 3, 2007

A bit of a dump in the San Juan mountains, for which we are grateful. Wolf Creek received over 40" of snow on Saturday and Sunday. Sonlight again looks like a winter wonderland. Turkeys are here, there are about 15 of them hiking around the camp. Ski groups start arriving at Sonlight just before Christmas.

You know, when we have a chance to do a bit of travel, I am reminded of the treasures that we have at Sonlight. Peacefulness, instead of lots of traffic and congested streets. Spring water, instead of recycled city water. Turkeys looking in the windows, instead of a view of the interstate.
