  What's New Archives

We wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving. So much to be thankful for!

November 19, 2007

It's a big, big day for Sonlight. Heidi starts the Program Director job today- and how great is that! Winston is pretty excited to hand off some duties, some paperwork and a few headaches. Life is good, we're reading some good stuff. "Blue Like Jazz" (Donald Miller), "Good To Great" (Jim Collins), unChristian, What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity, and Why It Matters (David Kinnaman) and "Everything Must Change: Jesus, Global Crisis and a Revolution of Hope" (Brian McLaren). Oh, and a JA Jance mystery. It's also a big day, because we got to add China to our 'Around the World Pics'. Thanks Mike C! (Who's the scarey looking guard behind you?)

November 17, 2007

November is pertty quiet around camp. The sun is shining, and we're patienly waiting for snow. So to entertain ourselves, we've been looking at some old photos. We figured we'd probably better share a few with you. Larson Silbaugh is on the left. The middle pic is Winston and Mary holding some adorable child. We think the adorable child Sophie Davis, who was Sonlight's first second-generation camper.

Snowpack is low, or non-existent all over Colorado and Utah. Wolf Creek does have a run open, the photos tell all.

(The pics are so sad, I only put 3 up)

November 14, 2007

Soon pics of the snowpack at Wolf Creek. Mary is off to a meeting to review results of a national research project on injury and illness at camp. Then Winston and Mary attend the regional American Camp Association conference. The keynote is about how camps should embrace and respond to culture that has changed/is changing. Interesting stuff.

A bit of exploring of Buckles Lake, south of Pagosa Springs for possible future backpacking use. Warm and dry. Wolf Creek is open, with only the baby Nova run open. Hum.... come on snow! More travel pics to view!

November 9, 2007

We kind of have an international theme going on with some Sonlight folks. Mike C. headed to China, Cami in India. Karamie is returning from Israel, Erin and Katie are in Rome headed for the Swiss Alps. Benji is sleeping in the sun, wishing somebody would take him on a hike.

November 7, 2007

Lots of good things going on. Heidi is planning summer. Watch out summer, here we come. The 2008 summer brochure is at the printers, it'll be mailed out January 2. Ski groups are gettin' ready for ski/snowboard trips. Uh Oh. where's the snow? Photos of Wolf Creek below. Come on blizzards! New devo is up.

November 2, 2007

Benji climbed Mt. Sherman yesterday, a bit of snow and a lot of wind. His advice is to not climb a 14er in November. The sun at Sonlight is much more pleasant.

We're all on a journey, and it's interesting to consider the seasons of our life along the way. Journeys are not always easy. If we don't have a goal, or specific direction we're headed, who knows where we'll end up. A map is important. The hard times, or uphill spots get us to where the view is, and where we can see more clearly where we've been, and where we're headed.
