Spring, beautiful spring. Mud, wet meadows and snow. It's melting quickly, but there is still a lot of snow around. Things are getting all shut down, and camp will be pretty quiet until May. A new devo is up.

Sonlight purchases Pura Vida coffee - "A cup of coffee good for everyone". Pura Vida is a coffee company, that in addition to being fair trade, chooses to pour their profits back in to the communities where they trade for coffee. Click the logo for a couple inspiring stories about the work they're doing. So every time you drink a cup of coffee at Sonlight, you're contributing to some amazing causes. |
Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes! Heidi is sorting out all the CIT's and dates. Patience friends. She'll have decisions by March 31st. If you want to be a CIT and haven't returned the application, you only have a few days left to get it to her.

The mountains are still buried in snow, and spring is defintely arriving. The meadow is snow covered, but the picnic tables are emerging. Skiing is awesome spring crud skiing. The Church of the Rock arrives from Little Rock today, one last ski group for Sonlight.

Good Friday.
Easter. Celebrate the Risen Lord, and the incredible sacrifice that He made for you and me.

Eagles are hanging out on 4 mile road. Great fun with Heidi, Keith and Stephanie. Keith did a littel barefoot snowshoeing. Crosspointe youth had a great ski trip. They reported great snow at Wolf Creek, and lots of spring break skiers.

Wait lists have shifted around a bit- so if you're on a list, check out where you are. Sonlight now has a Facebook page. Actually we have a Facebook group, full of awesome people! But even better yet, we now have a Facebook page. Just one more place to connect.

Happy St. Patricks Day everybody. May the Luck 'O the Irish be with you. (Did you guys know Winston is half Irish?) |
Youth from Crosspointe Church in Norman Oklahahom are here for a ski trip. Breakfast was early so they can get a jump on the ski day. Heidi loves early breakfasts. Porcupines on our deck this morning, having a little snack of the wooden flower planters. Better porcupines than skunks I guess. We had a really productive Board of Directors meeting over the weekend, thanks everybody. Thanks to Ron and Ann at Switchback in Pagosa. They donated their cool gear sign to Sonlight. We'll move it to the backpack building this spring. Winston flips burgers on Ginnys Grill. St. Patricks Day cookies by Heidi!

Winston: 3. Skunks: 0. He's got a system for getting the trap in the truck, and the skunk out of the trap. He's only been sprayed once. At least 2 more to go. Alicia is setting records at the bouldering wall, she went around it 7 times without touching the ground!

My friend Ted said some pretty significant things last night in a small group at church. We were talking about trusting Jesus, and walking every day in that trust. He said "There is a lot of our world that is not God. We all need a space to connect, and re-connect with Jesus". It struck me - a lot of our daily world is not God. What a simple way to say that every day we encounter people who are mean. Or people who simply are not nice. Or nice people who are stressed, and react badly to situations. Or people who do not act with integrity, and tell little lies. Or cheat in little ways. Or people who place value on things that God does not value. Clothes. Money. Status. Not bad people, but people placing importance on things that are not God. Lots of just 'not God'. So how do we, every day, direct ourselves back to God?

We're reading some good stuff these days.
- Radical Hospitality: Benedicts Way of Love (Collins)
- Three Cups of Tea (Mortenson)
- I Was A Stranger: The Theology of Christian Hospitality (Sutherland)
- Azerbijan (by some guy who's name we can't pronounce)
"All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ." So says the famous Rule of St. Benedict, written more than 1,500 years ago. (From Radical Hospitality). Such a high standard to strive for as we welcome all to Sonlight..

Spring must be here, because Mr. and Mrs. Skunk and all their little skunk babies are out and about. We trapped 1 Saturday night. 4 more were froliking on the back deck Sunday night. Cute little fellows, but they don't smell too good.
From my devo book this morning: "My God is huge and my God is able. If I don't get what I ask Him for, I know I'll get something bigger." (Nehemiah 9:6. Psalm 24:1. Psalm 95:3.5. Job 12:10)
March 8, 2008
Lots 'o cool folks at Sonlight this weekend. Mike C., Maggie, Courtney, Isaac, Jordan, Kara, Sarah C., Chris, Russell, and others! We had some adventures digging out the spring overflow. Winston got a GPS lesson.
March 7, 2008
Lots of blue sky, but it's still cold. The snow has settled a lot, but is still piled up. We look forward to youth from First Presbyterian Church and Sandia Presbyterian at Sonlight for a ski trip this weekend. Mike C. is going to venture into new territory and be support staff. He assures us he is up to the task, because he knows the difference between "this" window and "that" window. I suspect he'll show us all up with his incredible kitchen skill.

Spring is in the air, which means that summer is around the corner. The front deck geraniums are loaded with blooms- they're spending the winter in Mary and Winston's cabin, patiently waiting to get back outside on the decks. Heidi was at camp over the weekend, and her ideas for summer are amazing. I hope you guys are ready for some fun. Ready to be challenged. Ready to shine.
March is a big month. Maui the cat turns 21 years old. Yup, he's still living. Gals from Pine Valley church had a great weekend at camp. Spring is coming, but it's still snowy. Happy Birthday Larson!
