Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (in 2008 on May 26). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include casualties of any war or military action.

Traditions and history. Wars that make no sense. Battles and victories. On this day, we can honor those who have served. Honor those who have fallen. Whether or not we agree with the conflict. Or even understand the war they fought. We can celebrate our freedom. We can be respectful of those who have sacrificed. We can say thank-you to a military family. And we can live with the expectant hope that God is a mighty God. He alone will rule.

May 23 - again

Still snowing. Really hard. If it's snowing, make snowcones. Dani made a snowman named Frederick.

Big weekend ahead, we're hosting a wilderness first aid course. Lots of cool people will be here to get wfa certified. Mike C. made a very generous donation to Sonlight of 3 Garmin GPS units in honor of Scott Hudson. Mike is setting 3 caches at Sonlight, and a new option this summer will be learning to use the GPS units and finidng the caches. Fun is ahead! Photos: Mike C., TJ a summer staffer from Tucson and Heidi.

My goodness. May is such a delightful month of busy type things. Jan-from-Minnesota is visiting, and busy folding new t-shirts. Heidi is doing things on her computer. Winston is de-winterizing buildings and getting things cleaned up. The hummingbirds have arrived, and the aspen trees are just leafing out.

Sammy is making friends with Heidi's fish. Benji is wishing that all the snow wouldn't melt.

May 5, 2008

Springtime! Which means summer is around the corner. Not too much of the white stuff left at camp, but the mountains are still white. The meadow is really turning green. Heidi and Winston are busy making 'what to do' lists so they have something to do in the next few weeks. Benji is glad everybody is home.
