We're playing a bit of "lookywhoisatcamp" this week. Pretty fun to have old friends lend a hand. Hikes up Alberta Peak and Treasure Mountain were fun/snowy/adventuresome today.

"My daughter came home from camp exploring her faith as her own. She was impacted in a big way, especially affected by watching the counselors live and explore their faith. Thank you for all you do." We appreciate kind words from parents!

Discovery camp this week- some new kids, some returning kids: our job is a prviledge! We had a new pirate on the road yesterday- but were informed by a very small person that he wasn't as scarey as the pirate last year. We're pretty excited about Brett being our speaker this week, he is a man of great wisdom. Our theme is "It Matters: Our Story". We're exploring our stories, and the story of Jesus.

Fishin' Impossible. The most amazing game ever. With a guy like the chap on the left runnning it, how can you go wrong? The sun is out today- good news for messy games day! More progress on 'Scott's Spot' - Charlie is a busy guy!
June 11, 2009
Charlie is busy as ever. He's got most of "Scott's Spot" completed- stay tuned for more details. A new deck for the healthcare station will be a big improvement. Tope is visiting Benji for a couple weeks. Tope is wondering if he died and went to dog heaven. A huge meadow. 54 kids to play with him and an occasional hot dog.

Opening day of camp yesterday! 7th/8th graders here for an amazing week. Charlie arrived from Texas so our staff is complete. Teams course today. We're off to a great start with our theme It Matters. Camp matters. Friends matter. It matters that God loves us!

Amazing staff. Dodgeball. Lots of details. Jesus with us as we prepare. It is a priviledge to have kids coming. Seems like we've heard from a variety of former staff this last couple weeks. A few quotes:
... Sonlight staff changes, but the ministry and mission of Sonlight are a constant...
....the tenants that we had did not do any damage but they never cleaned so I had to scrub all of the floors and I had to mow the grass and do some weeding and it was just not how I wanted to spend my weekend. But there is a sprinkler that goes in a circle and makes the "chck, chck, chck" as it rotates. It reminded me of hearing the sprinkler out in the meadow. The quiet times when there wasn't a sound except for the sprinkler going. Then I started to think about camp and all the simple things that mean so much. And it made the cleaning a little bit better and I spent a little time sitting on the front step listening to the sprinkler with the dogs and I know that things are right in the world even if they don't always feel that way.

Staff orientation! 19 amazing people - it's going to be quite a summer. The summer staff is from Arizona, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Colorado, California and New Mexico. An amazing, diverse group of people. Chosen by God to be at Sonlight for a season. Each bringing a unique gift to the body as a whole.
In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets it's meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around..... So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellent formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ's body, let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be....
