What's New

May 30, 2009

Staff orientation! 19 amazing people - it's going to be quite a summer. The summer staff is from Arizona, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Colorado, California and New Mexico. An amazing, diverse group of people. Chosen by God to be at Sonlight for a season. Each bringing a unique gift to the body as a whole.

In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets it's meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around..... So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellent formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ's body, let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be....

Brett, the amazing man with many ideas has Sonlight celebraing in style. The massive 30 year sign in the dining room is to be signed by everybody who comes thru Sonlight this summer.

Nick, Heather and Brett are busy with program details. So far we've seen water balloon launchers, 5 gallon buckets painted with stripes, lots of wood and painting and a most awesome 'machine'. Not sure what this thing does, but Michael built it.

Lots of rain the last 4 days, and the wildflowers are coming popping out all over. A little sun, and oh how green everything will be. 11 days 'till campers!

Staff are knee deep in plans for the summer- This guy in the first pic is your summer camp director and he's on top of it all. A dusting of fresh snow on the peaks this morning, we've had great rain at camp. Rain = green meadow = a most excellent place for capture the flag. Camp preparation is like life preparation. You think through where you need to get to. You plan for how you'll get there. You get things sorted through and organized. You pray for wisdom. Then things come up that you didn't plan on. There are interruptions. Your plans didn't quite turn out like you thought. You pray. Recenter yourself with the one who made you. Remember that it's all about glorifying God. And remember that they are all His plans.

"For I know the plans I have for you, sayeth the Lord. Plans for good, and not evil. Plans to give you a future and a hope."

Jeremiah 29:11

A preview of one of the new hats for the summer! A huge thanks to the staff of the United Methodist Church in Durango- who contributed a morning of their time to get Sonlight ready for summer. Kudos to Jan Cardelli- who reads the guestbook and scored 30 crochet hooks at a yard sale for Sonlight. Thanks Jan!

More boxes of fun arriving every day. New nalgenes are ordered, caps, t-shirts and of course the new 30 year anniversary hoodie. The world's coolest bird was on the feeder yesterday- we think he's a Northern Oriole. Dandelions are in full bloom! We can't wait for staff to start arriving. Kayla- one of our cook staff will be arriving tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Winston. A great day here at camp, celebrating Winston and everything he means to us!

Plenty 'o dandelions showing in the meadow, the true sign of summer coming. Prepare to be amazed at new stuff at camp this summer, Winston and Brett are busy with plans!

Brett is pretty excited about all the new t-shirts and hats for the summer, he's in the meadow bustin' some moves. Some mighty fine merchandise. We have a full staff hired, we're in for a treat having some amazing folks join us for the summer. Camps are looking pretty full- there are Discovery spaces available. If you're in 5th/6th grade or know of a 5th/6th grader who would love to come to camp we've got spots open.

Yippee for May! The meadow is turning green, aspens are popping out and Brett and Winston are busy with a remodel project in Brett's office. Only 24 days until staff arrive, and only 33 more days until we launch summer 2009. There are boxes of water bottles, t-shirts and miscellaneous fun stacked in the lodge. A huge thanks to Mike C. for maintaining the website in April, he's the best.
