Snow, UPS deliveries and bears. How we love May! Apparently the moisture continues- it's been 21° and snowing. Benji and Tope woke Winston up a couple nights ago when Mr. BIG bear was peering up on the deck of our house to see who was home. Bet he's hungary after sleeping all winter. And I bet he wonders why he got up, if it's still snowing!

Thanks Mike C for your work on the 'what's new' page! Winston and Mary finished up some great time off in SE Utah. Especially beautiful with the new snow..... The pics are from Bryce National Park.
Camp is looking quite spring like. The snow is really melting, but there are big piles in the trees, and still snow behind the buildings. The meadow is soggy, a little early for capture the pic-chicken!

First stop in Utah for Winston and Mary was Capitol Reef National Park. It looks a lot warmer there than the photos they sent from the Grand Canyon a few days ago. The park gets the name "capitol" because of the white domes of Navajo Sandstone that bear a striking resemblance to capitol building rotundas. The picture on the left shows Winston sitting under a rock formation called the Hickman Bridge.

What a difference a few days and a few thousand feet in elevation make! Winston and Mary made it to the Grand Canyon, but it is not quite summer there yet (at least at the top rim). They awoke to 2" of snow. Brrrrr. They are now heading for the much warmer climate of Moab, Utah. Sounds like a great idea to me.

Brett and Kate finished their vacation swing through southern California and they sent a few more pictures from their trip. Highlights from the end of their trip included visiting some long-time friends and having some fun with his niece. Brett is now back at work finalizing plans for an awesome summer of camp!

Winston and Mary have been enjoying their bike ride through some beautiful high-desert scenery. The sign says that there "may be snow present," but Winston thinks this may be some sort of prank. These pictures were taken outside of Flagstaff, where they stopped for a visit with Mary's long-time friend Lisa (they've know each other since kindergarten). Next on their trip is the Grand Canyon. Mary told me they would be biking around it (not through it).

Mary made a cool video called "Sonlight Travels..." before she left for vacation. The video features photos of campers and staff with their Sonlight shirts and other gear taken all around the world. (I counted about 40 different countries and all 7 continents.) See how many people you recognize; I'll bet a lot!

The theme of the day is ROAD TRIP! Winston and Mary are well into their bicycle trip from Tucson to Salt Lake. Brett and Kate are also taking a road trip to Southern California to visit family and friends. First stop, San Diego. From the photos below, it looks like Winston is burning a few more calories than Brett.

Winston and Mary have started their big bike ride from Tucson to Salt Lake. Mary has learned how to send photos from her cell phone, so we may get to see lots of their fun along the ride. (She's really cool like that.)
As they got started on the ride, they stopped-off to see Sonlight's friend Sophie in Tucson. Sophie will be part of the fabulous cook team this summer. Welcome!
