What's New
February 28, 2010
What a weekend with gals from Pine Valley Church. 67 ladies joined us for the weekend, and how grateful we were for Dani and Valerie! Spring is in the air, and here comes the mud. Deep snow in the meadow, but the road and parking lot look like March. Camps continue to fill, so don't hesitate if you're not already signed up.

More snow! How can it be? It is getting seriously deep around camp. Snow is 1/2 way up some of the windows, and completely covering other windows. It's wonderful.

We finished up our conference week with a debrief at Brett's house, always a treat to see Heidi. Our conference wrapped up on an amazing note. Luis Benetiz was our keynote speaker- the mountaineer who holds the world record for non-Sherpa consecutive summits of Mt. Everest. He guided the blind athelet Erik Weihenmayer to the summit of Mt. Everest in 2001, an amazing story. His message resonated with 900+ camp professionals. Because of Camp, Luis was introduced to backpacking. Because of Camp, a counselor believed in Luis. Because of Camp a skinny asthmatic kid from the midwest has lived an amazing journey. Because of Camp- the impossible is possible.

New snow at camp, womens retreats and conference in Denver! Winston, Mary, Brett, Andrew, TJ and Katie are in Denver at the National American Camp Association conference. Because of Camp is our conference theme, and our days are packed with info. New games, team building activities, cultural trends in youth - so much info that will make Sonlight a better camp.

Some winter pics - it's snowy and beautiful at camp. Stacks of snow outside every window. Topé likes to peer in the office and see what we're up to. |

And from "This Beautiful Mess"
"God's reign shines through creation... He calls His kingdom revolutionaries to find creation as a place to worship, a place to represent redemption.... Everywhere we see the fingerprints of God. Just think of a snow covered mountain."

More snow at camp, Winston is ready to plow, and Brett is headed home to Denver wrapping up "Tour de Camp". We're gearing up for some fun- next weekend we host the annual Women's Retreat for the First United Methodist church in Durango, then it's off to the American Camp Association National conference in Denver. The theme is Because of Camp. We'll spend our time connecting with camping professionals from around the country, and get immersed in what's happening in camping nationwide. New games, insurance and regulatory trends, healthcare concerns (oh boy- how to deal with the H1N1 flu next summer!) and a bit of inspiration along the way.
Brett has dubbed next week "national staff week" as he'll continue processing the mountian of staff applications that are coming in. Thanks everybody who has applied! Pray for wisdom, clarity and perception for Brett as he interviews staff, and puts a team together.

Lots of news from the road, from Brett. He's been busy- and we are so grateful for the families and folks who have opened their homes in Albuquerque!
Things are moving along at camp. We had a great visit with the leaders of a misison team in Denver who plan to bring a group in May to do some facility work for Sonlight. Camps are filling up - thanks Carolyn for your hard work!

Incredible day at camp - roof shoveling! On the 3rd photo, note that we shoveled a spot for the snow to come off the roof. Check out the 4th photo- where it all came down and we had to start over! Brett is having a big time in New Mexico- making some amazing connections with potential summer staff, campers, speakers and churches. Click for Tour de Camp update.
