What's New

January 30, 2010

Incredible day at camp - roof shoveling! On the 3rd photo, note that we shoveled a spot for the snow to come off the roof. Check out the 4th photo- where it all came down and we had to start over! Brett is having a big time in New Mexico- making some amazing connections with potential summer staff, campers, speakers and churches. Click for Tour de Camp update.

More posting from Brett about Tour de Camp. What a productive trip! More snow on the horizon? What happened to the sun? Winston has been having a big time snowblowing.

January 28, 2010

Brett is having a great time in Albuquerque - getting a good education about the desert Southwest, and one of the communities that our campers come from. Check the Tour de Camp page for his post today. Fresh snow at Sonlight this morning - another 16" of fresh powder at Wolf Creek.

Brett is off for Tour de Camp. What a journey he has planned! Click for more info- if you'd like to connect with him while he's on the road. Winston has the two essentials for maintenance with him- 6" Duct tape and WD40.

January 23, 2010

Our friends from St. Johns United Methodist Church are here for their winter retreat. 63" fresh snow at Wolf Creek. We've gotten 3 or 4 feet of snow at camp- it's beautiful! Huge piles of snow everywhere. Tour de Camp with Brett is about to be launched- he's here at camp getting prepared to hit the road.

January 19, 2010

Fresh snow - a little early morning plowing, and tow truck operations. Tope and Benji helped. Then the little guys took off after crows. Oh the life. Brett is getting ready to hit the road- to meet some camper families, interview staff and do some church visitin'. Tour de Camp gets underway this weekend!

A great quote from "This Beautiful Mess" by Donald Miller and Rick McKinley

" We say we need to have relevant music, relevant programs, relevant speaking.......of course we're meant to communicate in an understandable way--I'm not saying we should try to be irrelevant. But relevance is a consequence of kingdom living, not a cause. We become relevant when we are committed to being that signpost of heaven in some part of our world. When we study Scripture, we find that relevance happens naturally when we choose to be real people caring for other real people. Even the real people who are not like us. Even the real people who don't hesitate to hate us. Authentic relationships make us relevant.....

We're reading some cool stuff right now. "You Gotta Keep Dancin'" by Tim Hansel. "This Beautiful Mess". And a NOLS first aid book. OK, so that one isn't as cool as the other two.

Amazing ski day in the back country on Wolf Creek Pass. Lots of sun and snow. One of those days that you know that God finds joy in His creation. The mountains, the peaks. The amazing beauty.

Carolyn, our registrar is busy with getting confirmations out. Everybody who is registered so far has a spot in camp -- you'll be getting a confirmation soon.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Milner family today. Maddie Milner, a long time Sonlight camper, was killed yesterday in a ski accident. We'll miss you Maddie, and know that we're better people to have known you.

Camp registration is in full swing. The best part about January is seeing who is registering for camp. We get pretty jazzed about seeing everybody's name pop up on the registration screen. All you campers should know how much we enjoy you! Big fun with staff over the weekend.

Happy New Year everybody. A new year. A new decade. Camp registrations start today - click here for registration options. If you have any troubles, or questions, don't hesitate to call us at camp: 970.264.4379.

Our friends from First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo had a great week at Sonlight, and headed back south after an early breakfast. We are so priviledged to work with such amazing youth groups. Thanks Dusty and Cody for your leadership.

The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul.

G. K. Chesterton

2010 is ahead of all of us. Dream dreams. Believe in your dreams. We believe in you.
