Tour de Camp

Friday 8:59am
"After two great homeshows, some crazy winter weather, ice cream with Lexi and Tres, connections with local pastors, and soaking up some Texan culture, I'm headed west back to New Mexico and Santa Fe. Looking forward to my time with the Spingler's tonight. Darrin and I went and saw "The Book of Eli" last night, which was a great way to wrap up my time in Texas. It was super great hanging out with the McVean's too. Thank you Sharky's and Roasters, hello Santa Fe..."

Wednesday 11:55am
"What is up with the weather in Amarillo? Rainy and cold, no fun. It's been fun hanging out with the Murphy family, and they hosted a superb homeshow last night. Off to 'Sharkies' for lunch with Lindsey Kirk..."

Tuesday 2:26pm
"Welcome to Texas Sonlight! I feel like I should be wearing cowboy boots, Carhartt jeans, and chewing some tobacco. Also, I haven't really seen anything that seems BIGGER here in Texas, which I thought would have happened by now. Still intrigued by the free 72 oz. steak at the Big Texan. After an uneventful night in Lubbock (except a great staff interview and distributing staff recruitment posters), I am kicking it in Amarillo right now. They have snow everywhere, and the PT Cruiser has been braving the snow-piled streets. Homeshow tonight - staying with the Murphy family. I think it's warm enough for a t-shirt!"

Monday 8:31am
"I-40 to I-27 to Lubbock...Go Red Raiders?!?"

Sunday 9:28pm
"My time is Albuquerque is coming to a close. Off to Texas tomorrow! I could not have asked for a better last day in Albuquerque. Two great homeshows, discovered new parts of the Albuquerque area, attended Covenant Pres for morning worship, and had some fantastic frito pie (I even got the recipe!). God has richly blessed Sonlight's ministry while I've been in town, and I am continually being blown away by the out-pouring and support of Sonlight families. To all those families out there who read this: Thank You. You are the best! For those in Texas, get ready for Sonlight, and ready for summer camp!"

Saturday 10:46pm
"Just finished a great staff interview at the Flying Star."

Saturday 11:33am
"Off to explore more parts of New Mexico: Los Alamos!!!!!!! I've heard a lot of interesting things about this city, and I'm looking forward to connecting with a few camper families and local churches. I had some super hot green chiles yesterday, it made me appreciate camp's mild and tasteful green chiles. Sunny weather today, staff interview tonight, here we go...."

Thursday 11:40pm
"Who would have guessed my trip would include racquetball with the Loyd brothers?!?! I got smoked (guess I should brush up on my skills), and it was great to see them. Please pray that God will direct those people who need to be on staff this summer at Sonlight...."

6:07pm
"Today was a little less frantic, and gave me a chance to catch up on office work and staff applications. Tomorrow will be extremely busy, and I'll get a chance to see UNM's campus and the surrounding area. I just got back from a tour of Albuquerque Academy (where some of our campers attend), and I would actually call it "Albuquerque College". The campus is bigger than most small Christian colleges in the country, and you feel the prestige radiating from the ground (please read this sentence with a hint of sarcasm). The winter storm everyone is talking about is summarized by wet pavement, blowing wind, and dusted white grass. The question I keep getting from all of the Sonlight campers amd staff that I bump into is, "Why are you here?" Exploring uncharted waters for camp, and raising the awareness of Sonlight's summer camps. We have a special thing going on here at Sonlight. That is evident just two days into the Tour."

Wednesday 11:49pm
"Side-mounted traffic signals, red or green or christmas, watermelon mountain - just a few interesting points I've picked up on while here in Albuquerque. Great people, great Sonlight support, great host family. My time in Albuquerque has been more than productive, and it's only day one! A bumper sticker I read today: "Guts, God, and Guns" displayed on an old farm truck. I'm also staying in the NE Heights, which I guess is the mecca of Sonlight families. Maybe I'll host a block party?!?!"

Monday 11:23pm
"My networking and travels are off to an unpredictable, blurry start - but there have been many highlights to rejoice about. Thanks to mother nature, my schedule has been bending a bit like jello the last few days. I met with a potential speaker and future 2010 staff member on Saturday. I was able to connect with a few churches in Durango today, poster flyers on Main Street, and meet with a Sonlight staffer. God continues to move in mysterious ways, and I am waiting patiently for Him to reveal all of His plans for the upcoming summer. We desire camp to be healthy, strong, vibrant, relational, life-changing, and fun this summer - little do we know, we sometimes put God in a box. Off on "official out-of-state travel" starting tomorrow. For all those in New Mexico, be patient with me (it's my first time in your state), show me some great places to eat green chile dishes, and I look forward to seeing all of the places you talk about.
